Administrative HistoryThe Tanners' Company probably existed in Chester from c.1362 controlling the preparation of hides and skins. Between 1711 and 1717, they were in correspondence with Chester's members of parliament concerning the imposition of a tax on leather and the prevention of the export of oak bark to Ireland
